Paper plane

by Mari Carrasco

A piece about having the head in the clouds and to wish for the impossible, to have unpractical ideas and not to be able to separate betweens dreams and reality. To be able to fly. Very early Mari named the piece Paper Plane. I used an A4 and folded it to a paper plane, and friezed the design on the way to folding it, for this big sculptural shape that could be used as a surface for projections and to roll, climb and slide on, as well as to appear and disappear behind.

REVIEWS

”The scene consists of a lying paper airplane, surface for both dance and projections, the size of which transforms the four dancers into small pits, two dressed in light shirts, two in black. Two of them place themselves on the edge of the plane's wing, unlikely to just ... The projections of the dancers as they move on the plane's side create a surreal, reverse perspective in an exciting game with space and surface. The projection then passes into cloud formations, maps, nervous systems, dancers in couples suggesting love, desire and vulnerability.”

A weighted paper plan model larger has landed or crashed on Dansens hus's large stage and gives both opportunities and resistance to the four female dancers who cling to and around it. Together, weightless, sometimes drawn to the ground by gravity, they take the playground with playful courage and enormous energy. Here is not a dead second but still full of shades in every body and its relation to the room, the object and the dancers… `` ”…Using sloping surfaces and walls in choreography is nothing new in itself, but here it becomes an exceptionally ambiguous and varied composition of vertical and horizontal movements at different speeds. The perspectives are constantly shifting as in a dream play where up and down, reality and illusion constantly change as<br /> during a restless sleep. The folded surface becomes, in a beautiful part, a film screen where the shadows of the figures linger and multiply. The quartet challenges each other but also throws itself against the smooth white surface, slide, glides around, disappears and reappears…”
